SIGNIFICANT changes will be made to the Bishopston and Redland ward boundaries, it has been announced.

Reshaping current areas is part of the electoral review, which aims to balance the number of citizens each city councillor represents in time for 2016's local elections.

Amendments to the wards were announced by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England on May 12 following a two-month consultation period.

Bishopston ward is to be renamed 'Bishopston and Ashley Down', with Kellaway Avenue and Muller Road providing the western and eastern boundaries respectively, and Redland will now include all streets south of Horfield Prison, as well as Redland station. Streets in St Andrews will become a part of the Ashley ward.

Over 15 comments were submitted from each ward during the public consultation period, which ran from December until February.

Each ward will still be represented by two councillors.
