SWIMMERS from Bishop Road Primary School are celebrating after picking up a hefty amount of silverware at a recent championship finals.

The team of thirteen collected eight gold medals, six silver and five bronze, plus all of the six trophies on offer at the competition.

All children competing in the Bristol Schools' Swimming Championships, held at Horfield Leisure Centre on May 9, qualified after heats held earlier in the year.

All four relay teams produced winning displays, with a trophy being awarded for each relay race. Bishop Road also picked up trophies for the highest quantity of points for both boys and girls.

This is only the third time that a school has won all six trophies in over fifty years of Bristol schools' swimming tournaments.

A spokesperson from the school said: “[This is] a remarkable achievement, and testament to the commitment of the school and the children to swimming.”

More exciting times lie ahead for the Bishop Road swimmers, with two more rounds of the local Percy Smith Gala League to be swum.

Plus, all four relay squads have qualified for the national finals of the English Schools' Swimming Association Primary Team Championships, to be held in Sheffield in June.
