Seeing red over threat to events industry
A DRAMATIC protest was staged by Bristol’s events industry in October to highlight the plight facing the worldwide live events industry.
More than 40,000 people work in Bristol’s events industry including performers, musicians, promoters, events organisers and venues. Bristol has been a cultural hub for creative businesses in recent years but now many are at risk of collapse because of the current restrictions on live events.
The protesters met The Survival Tour - five event professionals who are cycling across Britain visiting venues closed because of Covid-19.
The Bristol Beacon (formerly the Colston Hall) was lit up to welcome the riders.
The #WeMake Events Global Day of Action, saw more than 25 countries take part, with activations such as lighting iconic buildings in red to highlight how the industry is in red alert, as well as beaming shafts of white light into the sky to highlight the mass job losses.
