IT'S less than three months to go until runners take to Bristol's streets for the 2015 half marathon.

On September 12, the city will be bustling with local and international athletes of all ages and abilities, all set to run the scenic 13-mile course.

Places are still available for the running event, which is in its 27th year. Up to 15,000 runners are expected to take part in this year's event.

Run Bristol offers a variety of programmes, designed to aid all runners from completes novices to more experienced athletes.

Georgette Van Hoof, race director, said: “Between now and the starters gun there’s plenty of time for entrants to build themselves up for the race and our tried and tested training programmes are just the thing to get you going.

“The Bristol Half Marathon is a challenging experience and requires fitness, stamina and if you are looking to achieve a personal best – speed.

“From the complete novice up to the committed, experienced runner, good preparation is vitally important to an enjoyable, safe race day.”

There will be free training sessions held at Ashton Court Estate on July 4 and August 1.

Participants will be given the chance to learn about planning their training, advice on building strength, planning their race strategy and a range of other useful topics.

Staff from the University of Bristol’s sports injury clinic will also be on hand to provide one-on-one advice for anyone wishing to learn more about managing injuries and running technique.

Georgette added: “Running is a really great way to build fitness, strength and relieve stress, and participants can also choose to help raise money for a number of good causes.”

This year's official charity partners are St Peter’s Hospice, Penny Brohn Cancer Care and Refugee Action.
