Horfield Common gears up for Summer Picnic

FRIENDS of Horfield Common are going back to basics this year with an informal event which aims to encourage local people to enjoy the wonderful open space that we have on our doorstep.

Chair of FOHC, Sam Thomson, says that the group has made some "amazing progress" over the last few years in improving the facilities on Horfield Common and would therefore like to invite friends and neighbours to join in on the fun-filled family friendly afternoon.

There will be BBQ in the daytime with food supplied by local businesses in Gloucester Road, plus local musicians, a bar, community cafe and stalls selling plants, books, bric-a-brac and other donated goods, plus providing information about FOHC's work.

A 'wild food' walk will be held at 2pm, along with the chance to enjoy the new pond dipping platform with wildlife expert Steve England.

FOHC volunteers have worked hard to transform the pond over the last couple of years to ensure that it can be enjoyed by local people, as well as the wildlife.

The FOHC 2015 Summer Picnic event runs from 12-4pm on Sunday June 28. Bring along a picnic (or join in with the BBQ) and a blanket.
