Christmas concert fundraiser for Penny Brohn cancer charity
On the Winter Solstice, Los Picantes invites you to celebrate this special turning point in the year with a fund-raising concert on behalf of Bristol-based cancer and well-being charity Penny Brohn UK.
The Heart of Christmas contains musical performances and readings of spirit, soul and fun.The evening of Tuesday 21st December is the date of the Winter Solstice, when nights are longest and days are at their shortest - and renewal calls. The venue for The Heart of Christmasis Grove Hall. It’s the first community event to take place at the former St. Christopher’s School site in Westbury Park BS6 7JE.
Los Picantes quintet - flute, clarinet, bassoon, violin and harp - is joined by a shimmering ten-voice all-female choir for Benjamin Britten’s harp-based and much-loved A Ceremony of Carols.
Themes of the female role in procreation and birth are explored with readings and pieces such as Gustov Holst’s Hymn to the Dawn (from the Rig Veda).
Along with a selection of carols and songs will be a performance of O come, O come Emmanuel (arranged by Bristol composer William Goodchild.
The Heart of Christmas takes place onTuesday 21st December from 7:30pm - 9:00pm.
A complementary mulled wine is offered with every adult ticket booking. Please also feel free to BYO drinks.
In place of paying for a ticket, the organisers encourage you to make a donation to Penny Brohn UK. Suggested minimum donations are £10 per adult and £5 for young people.
