Candidate in call to look at the bigger picture in Bishopston developments

CLEAR plan for the redevelopment of three major sites in the Bishopston area should be drawn up so that all the changes are considered together, proposes Becky Lockyer, Lib Dem Candidate for Bishopston and Ashley Down ward.

Plans are currently being considered for the Memorial Ground in Horfield, the Brunel House site in Ashley Down and HMP Prison Bristol in Bishopston. The area has also seen a population growth which has meant that accommodation and school places are in short supply.

The Memorial Ground is still trying to find a resolution in the battle with Sainsbury’s who no longer wish to build upon the site. Owners of the Brunel House site has put in a planning application for 103 units with provision for just 59 parking spaces and opinions are being sought on what people may want to do with the prison site.

Ms Lockyer says: “We need to start taking a proper view about what matters for the whole community in this area. There are so many changes proposed that we have to develop a forwardlooking, proactive plan rather than simply reacting each time to new proposals.”

“One of these sites could be considered for housing, a school, or a doctor’s surgery. This is such a quirky and delightful area let our response to this opportunity be something that we can be proud of.”
