ALMOST £2,000 was raised at the Golden Hill Community Garden's popular annual Spring Fair last month.

Over 600 visitors flocked to the allotment site, behind Horfield Prison, to enjoy a myriad of outdoor activities including live music, morris dancing, a plant sale, pond dipping and home-made pizza from the clay oven.

£1,950 was raised overall for the garden which opens to community groups, schools and the public every Wednesday.

The fair also saw the official opening of Bishopston's first straw bale house. The Bale House, which uses power from the on-site solar panels, is available for hire and provides an ideal location for meetings, workshops or parties.

Lucy Mitchell, project coordinator at the garden said: "We are are ecstatic with the turn out. It's a great way to celebrate all the hard work that has gone into the garden and the Bishopston Bale House over the last year.”

The gardens are open every Tuesday morning and afternoon for toddler groups and every Wednesday to all.
